Effective Strategies for Getting Your Baby to Nap Peacefully

  • Set a consistent nap routine Babies thrive on routine. Try to start naps around the same time each day with the same pre-nap ritual—like dimming the lights, reading a short book, or singing a soft lullaby.

  • Watch for sleepy cues Instead of waiting until your baby is overtired, look for early signs like rubbing eyes, pulling ears, yawning, or becoming less active. Putting them down at the right time makes naps easier.

  • Create a nap-friendly environment Keep the room dark and quiet (blackout curtains help), and use white noise to block out household sounds. A cozy sleep space signals to your baby that it’s time to rest.

  • Keep nap times age-appropriate The number and length of naps your baby needs depends on their age. For example, newborns nap frequently, while older babies transition to 2–3 naps a day. Following their natural rhythm helps.
